Exhibition in The Bear Steps Gallery, Shrewsbury, 10th-21st September 2012
A report by Thelma Foster previously appearing in Lace, the magazine of the Lace Guild

The title 'Town of Flowers in Lace' encouraged a hive of activity throughout the preceeding months to produce a range of flowers which could form the central display for all the exhibits. Many pieces were produced which revolved around the floral theme and covered a variety of techniques and laces, both continental and English. Visitors could identify a range of uses of finished laces spread through both galleries, from tablecloths to bookmarks as well as floral displays.

The practice pillows were very popular and many visitors tried the basic stitches, which also gave a a taste of what could be achieved. The visitors' book was useful for giving information on the success of our enterprise and for showing the distance people had travelled to the town.

The exhibition was a good opportunity to launch our new leaflet, advertise our meetings and our activities, and to explain what could be achieved. Since then we have been able to welcome several new members to our meetings, all anxious to learn lacemaking.

As a first attempt at major publicity, this was certainly a successful venture and one that could be repeated in the future.
